The Pink Petal

To congratulate somebody. To thank someone. To wish someone well. To pay respect to. To let someone you know that you love them. To bring a smile just because. These are just some of the reasons why flowers would be delivered. There is nothing better than getting that knock on the door and seeing that someone had you on their mind.
The Pink Petal Fresh Floral & More in Pierre, SD would love to help you show someone you care by delivering a unique floral arrangement to their doorstep. Brandy Brockel took over the business about 41/2 years ago (three weeks before Valentine’s Day). If that doesn’t tell you that she is up for any challenge, I don’t know what will. If you stop in or call you will more than likely be dealing with her. She learned a lot from her experience working in flower shops in Aberdeen and really has brought that expertise and commitment to Pierre.
Walking into the store you get a sense of the pride she has for her shop. Everything is so fresh and tidy.
Of course they have all different kinds of flowers...
and stuffed animals and balloons to choose from...
....but Brandy brought in a lot of local merchandise that you can’t buy out of a box store…..This little flower shop is full of life and packed with so many great gifts.
Grassland Gourmet and Gifts made in Onida by retired teachers (two of which taught Brandy).
Brandy’s stepdad does woodworking and provides the shop with many different wood items such as wine racks and bars. He can customize anything you want for your house. Just give him the dimensions and a description of something you would like made and he will whip it up for you.
Amazing concrete leaves made locally.
There are even antiques in this flower shop. Brandy started out by having some family pieces in the shop for decoration and everyone kept wanting to buy them so she decided to start stocking more pieces. You can call her up if you are looking for a specific antique and she will keep an eye out for you when she is out and about at auctions.
Repurposed items done by Brandy, such as this piano turned wine bar can also be found here. If you repurpose furniture as well you are able to buy your paint here too. The Pink Petal sells Paint Couture which is one of only 2 stores in the state of SD that sells this kind of paint.
Mike Swenson, a teacher in Aberdeen, uses a kiln to melt down wine bottles to make wonderful items.
As you can see this is not just your average flower shop. So many different treasures to find in here.
In life there are two different occasions that call for special flowers that may take some privacy to pick out..weddings and funerals. Something that I found very special in The Pink Petal was the two separate rooms devoted to these private events. One room is a dedicated sympathy room for the privacy of those planning the arrangements for a funeral. They even carry memorial stones which you can’t find within 100 miles. The other room is the wedding room for the bridal consults. Two different sets of emotions and mindsets needed two separate rooms.
I asked Brandy what her favorite part of this job was and she stated that the uniqueness of each day and the new challenges that arise make this job perfect for her. People love to bring in off-the-wall, odd-ball things and say do something with these. Not only does she accept the challenge, but she goes above and beyond what they ask.
She told me on story of a daughter who just lost her father and brought his prized 14lb walleye mounted on a piece of driftwood to be incorporated with a floral arrangement for his service in Nebraska. Brandy happened to know the original taxidermist (who since passed away) so she called up his son and he cleaned it and refurbished it so it looked brand new. Brandy finished the arrangement around the walleye to make a wonderful, heartfelt piece for the service. Not only does Brandy accept challenges and but goes the extra mile to ensure beautiful products leave the store and people are fully satisfied. Brandy is open to everyone’s ideas and visions and loves to think outside-the-box. She said that there are so many different things you can come up with even with the usual suspects, carnations, roses, etc.
Now this is my kind of arrangement.
And this is the perfect arrangement for my husband and any other male species.
It even comes with a bottle opener!
Not only does Brandy support local by selling local merchandise in her store, but she also supports local people. In October (breast cancer awareness month) everything in the store is pink, even her hair. She lost both of her grandmas to breast cancer so it is dear to her heart. She holds a fundraiser at Pizza Ranch for a local recipient and then for the whole month of October 10 percent of breast cancer awareness items go to that recipient as well. Staying with the theme of giving back locally, Brandy and her fiancé drive for Lyft. She does it to give back and keep the community safe.
(Another cute find at The Pink Petal)
Pierre I challenge you to pay it forward with a delivery of kindness. Who is on your mind? Who needs rainbow at the end of a rainy day? Call The Pink Petal and send them some love!
